Time In Scouts/Guides:- twenty years as a leader, more if
you count my time as a scout and cub (didn't have Beavers in my
youth)
Best memory in Scouting/Guiding:- There are many so here
goes. Attending the Thailand Jamboree and spending Christmas day
with the unit opening presents. The opening and closing ceremony's
at the Jamboree. Canyoning and going down a crevasse on a glazier
in August, Abseiling 150ft off a bridge in Kandersteg in
Switzerland, Gliding, Caving and spending every Friday night with
the scouts
Sweets I can be bribed with:- Penny bananas and dairy milk
chocolate
Most likely to be heard saying:- "Come on you Blues
!!!" (as I am a keen Chelsea supporter and I do remember when we
were poor!
Doesn't like:- Nuts (this is in contrast to my personality
some would say)
Most looking forward to:- Spending time with the unit and
getting to know all the members and watching everybody's reactions
as we step on the plane on leaving day!
Moment I regret in Scouting:- trusting my fellow leaders when
they told me that it wasn't a permanent blonde dye. It took six
months to grow out!

Best memory in Scouting: Going on Camp with the Cubs and after
breakfast telling one Cub it was his turn to help with the washing
up. His reply was why do I need to learn to wash and dry
dishes as I am going to get married and my wife will do that!
Sweets I can be bribed with: Any as long as they are not
green (I am quite partial to white chocolate!)
Most likely to be heard saying:- "I'm Cold!"
Doesn't like: Being Cold, Green Sweets or Green Jelly
Most looking forward to:- Trying things I have never tried
before
Moment I regret in Scouting...... Not having the opportunity to
go to a World Jamboree as a Scout.
Laura Dyer

Time In Scouts/Guides:- I was a rainbow, brownie and guide I
then moved to explorers at the age of 15 and then have continued in
to network and leadership.
Best memory in Scouting/Guiding:- 21st WSJ in Hylands
park. I went as IST I had the best time I could have ever imagined!
I worked so hard and went through every emotion but it was all
worth it. I met some amazing people and made some incredible
friends who I know I will be in touch with for life. I worked with
a great time that helped make even the horrible jobs like cleaning
toilets, jumping in bins and digging 'nastyness' out of the showers
fun…or at least manageable.
Sweets I can be bribed with:- oooo any! Probably Cherry
Tangfastic Haribo, or chocolate raisins, or refresher bars, or
starburst, or liquorice allsorts…I don't think that there are many
that wouldn't work!
Most likely to be heard saying:- I've no idea what to put
here!
Doesn't like:- eggs! YUCK!
Most looking forward to:- Scouting or non-Scouting? Scouting it
has to be Chamboree next year! I'm heading up a sub camp and it's
all very exciting. Non- Scouting has to be Christmas, I love it! I
love all the festivity and everyone seems to be happier and more
smiley and it's a great excuse for late night shopping!
Moment I regret in Scouting:- Not doing the glacier hike when I
went to Kandersteg in 2003 and again in 2006! It is top of my to do
list the next time I go!

Best memory in Scouting/Guiding:- Heading off to
Kandersteg and being presented with my wood beads on top of the
Jungfau by my GSL/ADC. Watching Scouts over come their fear and
abseil 40 meters from a bridge in
Adelboden. Both are things I will never
forget.
Sweets I can be bribed with:- Just about any. But may pull
funny faces if they are really sour or stick to my teeth.
Most likely to be heard saying:- "Well if you packed your
own kit you would know where it is!"
Doesn't like:- Milk puddings especially rice
pudding - should be against the law!
Most looking forward to:- The whole challenge and
experience of the Jamboree. Making new friends.
Moment I regret in Scouting:- Not getting involved
sooner. Just a big kid really.

Jam on IST, I am looking forward to going with a Unit this time
Moment I regret in Scouting:- None. I can honestly say
that I have had no regrets but have made a lot of good friends
along the way.

Best memory in Scouting:- Many, Starting a brand new Troop in
January of the Scouting Centenary year. Winning the Best Troop at
the TT motorcycle races (the Scouts run the score boards)

Moment I regret in Scouting:- When I was a Scout
having just left school and starting work they wouldn't give me
time off to attend the 1971 World Scout Jamboree in Japan

years), have been involved with scouts for a good 5 years of that
time too .
Best memory in Scouting/Guiding:- Camping on a 'winter'
camp, waking up in the morning, warm as toast in the tent, with 2
foot of fresh, untrodden snow outside.Or on a dawn hike, eating
breakfast on the top of moel fammau at sunrise....hard to choose
between the 2 occasions
Sweets I can be bribed with:- chocolate, chocolate,
chocolate (especially Swedish Maribou chocolate!) and more
chocolate!
Most likely to be heard saying:- 'Grand''cool' and
'chill-out' (not all at once though!)
Doesn't like:- woodlice and spiders (am a real girl
at times when they are around!)
Most looking forward to:- getting to the jamboree,
after all the months of hard work preparing for it, and making sure
everyone enjoys it!
