The Badge
Is made up of three parts; Bronze, Silver and Gold. We
would expect that Groups would be able to award the Bronze section
around Easter time, the Silver section before the summer
break and the Gold section at Christmas.
The badge sections should be awarded to all those who actively
took part in the Challenge in the section during the year. A
record card is included to assist you.
Ordering the badges
Badges are ordered through a District contact (contact your DC
for more details). The three badges are sold as a set (all 3
badges) at a cost of 50p for the set of 3 badges and are ordered
through your District. Your initial order needs to be with your
District contact by Friday 18 November and they will be available
for distribution in January. There will an opportunity to place a
further order in May 2012 for distribution at the end of June.
Position of the badge(s)
The badge(s) will be worn above the right pocket of the Scout
shirt or on the right below the shoulder on a Beaver/Cub
jumper.
Awarding the badges
The bronze badge must not be worn before Friday 30 March 2012,
the silver badge must not be worn before Friday 1 June 2012 and the
gold badge must not be worn before Friday 23 November 2012. All the
badges achieved can be worn until 31 December 2013. Badges should
be presented as each individual achieves the required points for
each award, please don't wait until all three have been achieved
before presenting the badges.
The Challenges
You need to achieve one of the challenges each month. It
is okay to vary the order, for example achieving the December award
in July, as long as you complete the 12.
You may substitute a Challenge itself for a similar one (if
necessary), with the permission of your sectional ADC or your
DC.
Individual or Group achievement?
This should be seen as an individual award however some sections
will run a Cheshire Challenge event each month and not be too
concerned about 100% attendance from an individual at all events.
Therefore if an individual has participated in the majority of
activities and has good reason for missing one particular event
then Leader discretion is acceptable in awarding the badge.
It may be that not everyone in a section attains Gold, some may
get Silver or even Bronze. Therefore we provide a record card
for them to record it like this.
Moving Sections?
A key point of this initiative is to encourage "moving on'
between sections therefore if a Beaver gains the bronze award when
they move into Cubs the silver and gold badges should go with them
to Cubs where the expectation is that they will achieve the silver
and gold award.
Can adults take part?
Yes all uniformed adults can take part in Cheshire Challenge
2012 and can be awarded
the badges. They can be worn on the uniform following the same
guidelines issued for everybody else.
Where do I get more programme ideas?
The Cheshire Scouts website will contain programme ideas for
each month's activities and
will be regularly updated. The Challenge will also be a
significant discussion point at all sectional team meetings so make
sure your section is represented.
What if we don't have all sections at our Group?
You need to work with other Groups, preferably the feeder groups
you use and your ADC and DC are prepared to help you organize this
"cooperation" if you are experiencing
difficulties.
What if the Leaders in my Group won't help me?
Young people should not be deprived of the opportunity to gain
the three Cheshire Challenge 2012 badges because adults can't work
together. If you have difficulties moving
this initiative forward discuss your concerns with your GSL, if
that doesn't help discuss it with your ADC or DC, if that doesn't
work contact Graham Phillips the County Commissioner graham.phillips@cheshirescouts.org.uk
because after that it will work!
How do I tell people about our successes?
Send your news and stories for inclusion on the website special
pages covering the Cheshire Challenge 2012. Send it to: webteam@cheshirescouts.org.uk
What if I have a really good programme idea for one of the
months?
If you are prepared to share the details send it to the website
webteam@cheshirescouts.org.uk
where it will be considered for inclusion within the online
resources being developed.
