One Day Scrambling Grade 1

Cheshire Scouts Mountain Team are running a One Day Scrambling Grade 1 Event to support volunteers with T2 (Summer) Permits to learn and become confident on grade 1 scrambles

Pre-requisites

To attend this event, you must meet the following requirements:

  1. Scout Adventurous Activity Terrain 2 (summer) Permit Holder
  2. Member of the Scout Association

Transport: You need to make your own way you to the venue

Cost: There is no cost to participants, costs are being covered by the County under the condition that leaders use their permit with youngsters as soon as possible.

You will need to arrange:

  1. A team of suitably experienced EXPLORER scouts.
  2. T2 permit holder
  3. Suitably experienced second leader (does not have to have a permit, but if they do they may also be trained/assessed)
  4. Own equipment (Helmets, rope, safety equipment (some is available for hire from the County pool)
  5. Transport

Course Details:

Those being assessed will be current T2 permit holders, they will have experience of steep ground and be confident moving around in the G1 scramble environment. They will also be adept using a rope, when required, for basic security in those conditions. The topics covered will be:

  • Knowledge of the Scramble grading system
  • Group Management; Spotting; potential instances for use of the rope; Route finding; Dealing with height exposure.
  • Risk assessment (Candidates will compile an example Generic RA prior to the event)
  • Weather and its effects on the scrambling terrain
  • Emergency procedures
  • Equipment
