Date: 27th Jun 2026 Author: Josh Diamond
Volunteers from across Cheshire gathered at Queen Charlotte’s Wood for this year’s Cheshire Scouts AGM, combining the formal business of the charity with an opportunity to celebrate achievements, recognise volunteers and look ahead to an exciting future.

Dave Hopley, County Lead Volunteer, thanks all volunteers across Cheshire for their hard work and dedication over the last year.

County Lead Volunteer Dave Hopley reflected on another successful year for Cheshire Scouts, which now supports 9,752 young people with the help of more than 3,300+ volunteers. Highlights included a record-breaking Cheshire Hike, over 300 Top Awards achieved by young people, Cheshire’s biggest-ever year of international adventures, and preparations for both Chamboree 2026 and the 2027 World Scout Jamboree in Poland.

We were pleased to be joined by Cheshire Scouts’ County President, Lady Redmond, His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Cheshire, alongside County Chair Michael Rollinson, and Heather Lomas, Regional Lead Volunteer for North West England. Their attendance reflected the strong support for Scouting across Cheshire and the wider region, and the important role volunteers continue to play in helping young people gain skills for life.

The AGM also celebrated volunteers whose dedication has made a lasting difference to young people across the county. Long Service Awards were presented to Charly O’Brien (10 years), Andrew Little (40 years) and Pam Owen (60 years), representing an incredible 110 years of service to Scouting.

An Award for Merit was presented to Ruth Clemson in recognition of her outstanding contribution to Cheshire Scouts. Through her work supporting the Beaver section, Young Leaders, Top Awards and Explorer Scouting, Ruth has helped shape opportunities for countless young people and volunteers across the county, making her a thoroughly deserving recipient of this prestigious award.

The evening concluded, fittingly, with volunteers enjoying pizza together in the woods while celebrating another fantastic year of Scouting in Cheshire.
