Date: 8th Dec 2025 Author: Josh Diamond

On Saturday 7th December 2025, excitement filled the air at Mere & Tabley Community Hall as Cheshire Scouts officially launched Unit 18’s journey to the 26th World Scout Jamboree (WSJ), set to take place in Gdańsk, Poland in 2027. This marks the beginning of an unforgettable adventure for 36 young people and four dedicated leaders, representing all nine districts across Cheshire.

What is the World Scout Jamboree?

The WSJ is the largest Scouting event in the world, bringing together 40,000 participants from over 150 countries every four years. It’s more than a camp—it’s a global celebration of peace, friendship, and cultural exchange, offering young people the chance to develop skills for life while exploring new horizons.

Theme: Bravely

The 2027 Jamboree theme, “Bravely”, challenges Scouts to act courageously for the future of humanity and the planet. From adventurous activities to cultural experiences, every moment will inspire participants to live boldly and make a difference.

What Happened at the Launch?

The afternoon was packed with energy and enthusiasm:

  • Welcome & Introductions from County Lead Volunteer Dave Hopley and the Unit Leadership Team.
  • An overview of the Jamboree experience, including the stunning coastal site on Wyspa Sobieszewska in Gdańsk.
  • Workshops and Q&A sessions to answer burning questions from participants and parents.
  • Fun icebreakers like People Bingo, helping everyone start building friendships from day one.

The Road Ahead

Unit 18’s journey will include:

  • Team-building days and training camps to prepare for life at the Jamboree.
  • Chamboree 2026, socials, and fundraising events.
  • A send-off celebration before departure in July 2027. These events are designed to ensure the unit becomes a close-knit team ready to thrive in Poland.

Fundraising Challenge

The total fundraising target is £137,700, covering Jamboree fees, travel, insurance, and preparation events. Families will work together across districts, supported by grants and bursaries to ensure cost is never a barrier. Creative ideas like bag packs, community events, and themed socials will make fundraising fun and rewarding.

What Can Participants Expect?

Friendships that last a lifetime, new-found confidence, and skills for life. Parents can expect their young people to return more independent and inspired than ever before.
