St. George’s Day

Scouts Clap for Carers, Thursday 23 April 2020
This coming Thursday is St. Georges day and we would like you to encourage all Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and Adults in Cheshire Scouting to wear their necker, or uniform and join in with the clap for carers at 8pm to show our appreciation for everything they do. You may have seen that on the run up to this week’s clap at 7pm ‘The Big Night In’ appeal is being televised for BBC Children in Need and Comic Relief, this will feature Chief Scout Bear Grylls and The Scouts #HikeToTheMoon – see below.

Please share your photos and videos from this week’s #ScoutsClapForCarers using the hashtag and mention us on social media – you may be featured as part of our #PromiseHouseParty

Promise House Party, Sunday 26 April
Join us at 11am to watch (and take part in) a virtual County Scout Sunday for St. George’s Day that will be like nothing you have seen before. It will retain the key elements of our Law and Promise remake; reflections on the support Cheshire Scouting gives to those people trying to keep us safe in these difficult times; And your highlights of Scouting from Home#HomeScouting. You’ll be able to watch live here;

Shoutout for Heroes

We have added a new page to the Cheshire Scouts website so that Leaders can give a shoutout to anybody they know, connected to Scouting who is a hero supporting the effort to beat the current crisis. It can be another Leader, a family member of a group member or somebody who just helps your Group out occasionally. The rules are simple if they are a key worker or somebody volunteering to help others and they have a connection to Scouting in Cheshire then let’s give them a shout out. Clearly this includes people working in the NHS and care sector but let’s not forget those working in supermarkets and local shops. We know there are others working to keep schools open, keeping our transport links open for key workers, there are those working behind the scenes in local authorities and the list goes on. Use this simple form to nominate somebody you know who is a Covid-19 hero.

#HomeScouting Champions

This week we have sent out over 50 ‘Well Done and Thank You!’ certificates to #HomeScouting Champions. These are in recognition of those Groups who have embraced Scouting at home. There are two ways you can receive a certificate, if you post at least three different posts on our social media channels showcasing your home scouting, you will be in with a good chance of receiving a certificate, or your DC can nominate you for a certificate.

#StayAtHomeTV
We know staying at home can be hard. But fear not, some of our Explorers have been working on some activities you can do with some of the skills they’ve learnt… Tune in on Tuesday’s at 11am, this week it’s Banoffee Pie with Ella & Jess

Could you be a Local Training Manager?

Cheshire Scouts have an enviable reputation for delivering more training and support to front line Leaders than any other Scout County in the region with more woodbadges awarded than a number of other Counties combined. It’s now time to take the next step by strengthening our team of Local Training Managers to have at least two in every District. You need a passion for supporting adults through our structured training programme, you must be a woodbadge holder and you need to have about 12 hours a month to give to this role.

Hike to the Moon

Scouts are going on a #HikeToTheMoon! Young people, families, and volunteers like us are hiking at least a mile at home, donating, and supporting those who need it most with BBC Children in Need and Comic Relief.
By taking action and raising funds for The Big Night In, we’re helping people in our communities when they need it most.  It also just so happens that April 23 is St George’s Day – when lots of us renew our promise to help other people. Taking part in our Hike to the Moon is a great way to live your promise and do something to help other people.
