HM King Charles III’s first Birthday Honours list sees John Bennett awarded MBE
We’re so proud to share that John Bennett – Group Scout Leader of 35th South West Cheshire, District Secretary, County Safety Advisor and a Trustee – has been recognised for his voluntary work and service to young people in the The King’s Birthday Honours list, released today.
Being chosen to receive honours from The King is a huge achievement and highlights the fantastic work our volunteers do every day, dedicating their time to helping young people gain skills for life.
Back in 1952, John joined Cubs and then moved up to Scouts at 1st Wolverton Scout Group. During his young adult life, he volunteered as Scout Leader for 38th South West Cheshire.
Following this, including the roles above, John has volunteered as Warden at Forest Camp, and has grown Wistaston Scout Group alongside 30 other volunteers to the largest Group in the District, with two Beaver Colonies, two Cub Packs and two Scout Troops.
John, who has now volunteered for Scouts for over 50 years, said:
“From the outset I must say that I am honoured and humbled to receive this award, although it is in my name I recognise that without a fantastic team behind me it would not have been possible.
“It’s because of the leaders, and others who have given up time to help over the years, that the group has flourished as well as it has.”
A huge well done to John from all at Cheshire Scouts, and nationally – we’re hugely proud of you. We hope you’ll be celebrating your own achievements!
