New District Commissioner appointed for Mid Cheshire

Stuart Young has been appointed to lead Mid Cheshire Scouts as District Commissioner.

Dave Hopley, County Commissioner, said, “I am delighted to have appointed Stuart Young as District Commissioner for Mid Cheshire. Stuart is a committed and enthusiastic Scouter, who will lead the District to its next chapter. Andrew Little, former DC for Mid Cheshire will provide mentor support to Stuart.”

“I’d also like to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to Darren Gorst for his leadership of Mid Cheshire District over the past 12 months.”

Stuart is an Automotive Parts Specialist for Arnold Clark, where he works with a team providing parts information to support one of the busiest Vauxhall Dealerships in the UK. Stuart has also worked for other major manufacturers in senior positions running national level sales teams for BMW. Stuart also spent many years working in the Telecommunications Industry supplying technology to companies such as O2, British Telecom, AT&T and many others.

Stuart’s Scouting journey started as a Cub Scout in 1982 with 5th Cheadle Hulme progressing through Cubs, Scouts and Venture Scouts with them. He was a young leader with 4th Cheadle Hulme before taking a short break from Scouting whilst working in the IT industry travelling extensively. Stuart became an ACSL in 2007 in Ladybrook Valley with 1st Hazel Grove and eventually joined 1st Lostock Gralam as the Scout Section leader in 2015 from there Stuart has become the GSL of 1st Moulton, restarting the group after the pandemic. Stuart also holds the role of Local Training Manager (LTM) and is a member of the Firepower and County Archery teams.

Outside of Scouting, Stuart is a keen angler and can be found sat on the banks of the various waters enjoying a quiet day’s fishing. Stuart is also a keen archer and has been involved in the sport for over 20 years shooting both for fun and competitively over the years.

On his appointment Stuart said, “I’m thrilled to have been appointed as District Commissioner for Mid Cheshire and I look forward to leading the District through the coming months and years. I’d like to thank Darren for all his hard work and effort with the District over the last 12 months and I wish him well in his future endeavours.”

Darren Gorst said, “Stuart’s appointment is a strong, positive step for Mid Cheshire Scouts. I’ve known Stuart for many years as great friend and colleague and his passion, dedication and commitment to local and national Scouting is an important asset for our District. Well done Stuart and the best of luck in your new role”.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
