Our President, Sir William Bromley-Davenport, retires

Date: 15th Jan 2022 Author: Josh Diamond
Our President Sir William Bromley-Davenport is to retire as our County President, a role he has held for over 30 years, because of health reasons.

Dave Hopley, County Commissioner for Cheshire Scouts, said; “We are extremely thankful to Bill, who will be remembered fondly and has given near 50 years of service to Cheshire Scouts, first as a Vice President, then Chairman and then our President. His role as President ran concurrent with and extended beyond his role as Lord-Lieutenant of Cheshire.”

“In consultation with the County Chair and Board of Trustees we are delighted that Lady Alexis Redmond MBE Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire has accepted our invitation to become the next President of Cheshire Scouts, subject to approval at our next Annual General Meeting in June.”

Alexis said; “I am aware of the high regard Sir William Bromley Davenport had for Scouting in Cheshire, and it would be an honour to follow him. Please be assured of my commitment to support and promote the wellbeing and perception of Cheshire Scouts, as you adjust and recover from the coronavirus pandemic whilst continuing the strategy of delivering skills for life and preparing for better futures for young people.”

“May I take this opportunity to extend my thanks for the work you have done during the pandemic. Let’s look forward to the future and a speedy recovery from the impact of the pandemic for all, and the already robust Scouting in Cheshire going from strength to strength.”

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
