Remembering HM Queen Elizabeth II

Date: 16th Sep 2022 Author: Josh Diamond
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was Patron of the Scouts throughout her reign, and we remember her with utmost respect and gratitude. Cheshire Scouts send their condolences to The Royal Family at this sad time.

120 Scouts aged 18-25 from across the UK have volunteered to support everyone who’ll be paying their respects to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in London this week, alongside our very own Grace Wheeler from Mersey Weaver District in Cheshire.

Grace travelled to Gilwell Park on Monday, and will be with the team until the day of the funeral.

Grace will be volunteering in shifts with the other Scouts in Victoria Tower Gardens to direct members of the public, keep them safe and joining the thousands of people paying their respect to Her Majesty the Queen.

Grace said

My grandfather was a protection officer for HM the Queen as well as a Queen Scout himself so it is a real honour to have been asked to fulfil my Scout promise and do my duty to our Queen.

There’s been a special relationship between the Scouts and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, with Scout volunteers supporting her coronation. Throughout seven decades, the Queen encouraged Scouts to do their best and do their duty to help other people.

Those joining the Scouts promise to do their duty to the Queen and follow in her selfless service.

The highest award in Scouting was the Queen’s Scout Award, where young people followed Her Majesty’s example of community, kindness and duty to the country. Since the Queen’s Scout Award began, over 100,000 of these awards have been presented to young men and women for outstanding personal achievements and service to their local communities.

Dave Hopley, County Commissioner said

I am really proud that Grace is representing Cheshire Scouts assisting members of the public wanting to pay their respects and keeping them safe at the Lying-in-State. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will always mean a great deal to The Scouts. On behalf of every Cheshire Scout, we thank her for her service. We will never forget her.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
