Cheshire Scouts Newsletter

It’s Scouting in Cheshire like never before!
Let’s remember that we are only in week 3 of the Covid-19 crisis and it’s amazing the way that Scouting across Cheshire is getting to grips with the challenges of no face-to-face meetings.  More Groups each week are embracing technology to host online meetings, to share programme ideas, to take part in the latest challenges (no matter how crazy) and to keep in touch with each other. If your Group or section need help getting to grips with technology for online meetings contact your DC (details below) who will be able to point you in the right direction for help and advice.

April 2020 – Edition 1

Only Scouts know how important camping is to each other and the pictures of Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and couple of Leaders rising to the challenge of camping at home either in the garden or their bedrooms have been really inspiring. Watch the video of some of our current favourite pictures. (New video will be released next week as the pictures keep flooding in).

Madness we know but even one of our DC’s has practised (we have no idea for how long!) to flip their scarf from their foot to their heads. Well done to all those who have achieved it so far, if you want to join the fun then get practising and send us your video when you master the skill.
If you have no idea what we are talking about then here are a couple of examples to get you going.

Let’s keep in touch

Each day Cheshire Scouts social media channels burst into action with the aim of keeping adults in Scouting connected. Here’s what you can expect…

Everybody is being encouraged to share a picture of what they are doing with their self-isolation time. Share using the hashtag #SelfieSunday on

Each week we will share a motivational quote from our Chief Scout Bear Grylls.

#TipTuesday and #StayAtHomeTV
Each week we will share a top tip for home scouting or self-care during self-isolation.

We know staying at home can be hard. But fear not, some of our Explorers have been working on some activities you can do with some of the skills they’ve learnt… Today we launched #StayAtHomeTV, Episode 1 featured Grace from Beacon ESU, showing us how to make an Origami Tented Village, a great #CampAtHome activity!

Have you got a skill you’d like to share with us? Record a video and send it to

For #WellnessWednesday we’ve launched;
Coffee Club Wednesday

Cheshire Scouts are encouraging local friends in Scouting to stay in touch with a virtual coffee club each Wednesday. If you need help setting your virtual coffee club up speak to your DC or email
You can send us a picture of your coffee club to the e-mail address above also.

Each week we will share a throwback to some of Cheshire Scouts best adventures.

Cheshire Scouts are encouraging everybody to Fone a Friend each Friday who they have not spoken with for at least the last 4 weeks. Let’s keep in touch with the people who are important to us and support each other in these challenging times.

Each week we’ll be encouraging you to give a #ShoutOut to your Cheshire Scouting Heroes.Discover More

Stay in the Loop

To watch what is happening around Cheshire make sure you are watching our social media channels. If you are not sure how to do this then shout out for advice. Find any young person you know and get them to talk you through how to set them up on your telephone, iPad (or similar) and then sit back as the pictures and stories arrive each day. If you cant find somebody to help then contact your DC who will put you in touch with somebody who can help.

At the same time we hope that you are all keeping in touch locally in your Group, if not contact your GSL and get something sorted! Even better send us your pictures of online meetings.Discover More

Shout Out for Heroes

A permanent home for #ShoutOutSaturday
We have added a new page to the Cheshire Scouts website so that Leaders can give a shout out to anybody they know, connected to Cheshire Scouting who is a HERO supporting the effort to beat the current Covid-19 (Coronavirus) crisis. It can be another Leader, a family member of a group member or somebody who just helps your Group out occasionally.

The rules are simple if they are a key worker or somebody volunteering to help others and they have a connection to Scouting in Cheshire then let’s give them a shout out. Clearly this includes people working in the NHS and care sector but let’s not forget those working in supermarkets and local shops.

We know there are others working to keep schools open, keeping our transport links open for key workers, there are those working behind the scenes in local authorities and the list goes on.

Use this simple form to nominate somebody you know who is a Covid-19 HERO.
